SRI LANKA, the Pearl of the Indian Ocean
Sri Lanka, nicknamed the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean", is a dream destination for gemology enthusiasts. Renowned for its exceptional quality precious stones, this country offers an abundance of gems with mining districts such as Ratnapura , also known as the "City of Gems" or Elahera, Balangoda and Uva .
The geological formations of the island, mainly made up of Precambrian metamorphic rocks, have undergone intense and unique geological processes, creating ideal conditions for the formation of gems (sapphires, rubies, spinels, garnets...).

Colombia, capital of green gold
David's favorite country, where he has carried out numerous gemological field missions, Colombia is known worldwide for its exceptional emeralds , which can be found in the western and eastern belts of the country . The most famous mines of this green gem are those of Muzo , Chivor and Coscuez , located in the regions of Boyacá and Cundinamarca, and produce emeralds prized for their intense green color and remarkable clarity.
Muzo emeralds, often touted as the finest emeralds in the world, form in hydrothermal veins within black shales and Cretaceous limestones, resulting from complex geological processes involving beryllium-rich fluids under conditions of high pressure and temperature.
In addition to emeralds, this South American country has world-class deposits of tourmalines, topaz, sapphires and euclase , reinforcing its position as a leading center for gemmology.
Colombian euclases , still relatively little known and difficult to obtain on world markets, have a magnificent blueish sheen, reminiscent of Polynesian lagoons or pretty spring skies!
